The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) invites fellows to apply for the role of registrar. This is a unique opportunity to lead, innovate and make a significant impact on the medical community.

About the role

  • Start date: December 2024
  • Term: initial 3-year term, extendable to 5 years by mutual agreement
  • Eligibility: open to all fellows in good standing with the RCP, your employer and the GMC. Job share considered
  • Commitment: 3 full days per week, with a commitment to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the role
  • Compensation: while the role is not salaried, a clinician release supplement of up to £30,000 per annum is available to support employer backfill costs. Reimbursement of eligible expenses is also provided according to the RCP’s travel policy.

Key responsibilities: as registrar, you will hold a pivotal leadership role within the RCP, with responsibility for:

  1. UK and global membership engagement: strengthen our community and enhance member experiences.
  2. Professional governance: oversee some of our core functions, including Council and fellowship elections.
  3. Professional standards and consultations: uphold and advance the highest standards of practice.

As part of the senior officer team, you will work together on issues relating to the RCP’s relationship with the NHS and wider stakeholder bodies. Working with the senior officers and executive leaders of the RCP theme boards (improving, educating and influencing), the registrar plays a key role connecting the different constituencies and stakeholders of the RCP, from the New Consultants Committee and regional advisers to Council and specialist societies.
