RCP annual report 2019: The voice of our members

Fellows Ceremony Attendees

The report is set out under five strategic themes, all working towards our vision of the best health and healthcare for everyone. The graphic summary below presents an overview of some of our highlights of 2019 by theme.

1 Improving care for patients

We work directly with physicians, clinical teams, hospitals and policymakers to design person-centred services, and involve patients and carers to help shape best practice.

2 Developing physicians throughout their careers

Our education and training programmes support physicians to fulfil their potential. We develop doctors to deliver the best possible patient care and become excellent clinicians.

3 Leading and supporting our members

We lead the profession by supporting and inspiring our members to meet the challenges of practising medicine today. Our members are our greatest asset – we listen to, support and learn from them.

4 Shaping the future of health and healthcare

Our members and their patients are central to shaping the RCP’s ambitious vision for the best possible health and care for all. Throughout 2019 we continued to promote, advocate and campaign on the issues that we know matter most to them.

5 Investing in our future, building on our heritage

The RCP is at the forefront of clinical innovation, yet we also share and learn from our medical heritage, which dates back over 500 years to 1518. We invest in our future while promoting and preserving our history.

Feature articles

This year’s report also includes an update about the development of RCP at The Spine, our new building in Liverpool, as well as a feature on our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how it is affecting our plans for the future.

Summary of income and expenditure

In 2019 our total income was £42.7 million. After adjusting for the demerger of the Faculty of Leadership and Management (FMLM), this represents a growth in income of 3% on last year. In line with our continued investment in the RCP’s strategy, our expenditure was £43.9 million. This is in line with expenditure in 2018.
