The RCP annual report 2025 reflects on a significant year of progress, change and renewal for the college. Following a difficult period, we focused on rebuilding the confidence of members and fellows, strengthening governance and reasserting our role as an authoritative and trusted voice in medicine and healthcare.
The year brought major leadership changes, including the election of Professor Mumtaz Patel as president, and the appointments of Dr Diana Walford CBE as chair of the Board of Trustees and Jonathan Brüün as chief executive officer. We also made historic progress in democratic engagement, with collegiate members given voting rights in elections for vice presidents and councillors for the first time.
We delivered wide-ranging work to support physicians throughout their careers, improve standards of care and shape national policy. This included successful Medicine 2025 and Med+ conferences, high-profile campaigns on corridor care, medical training reform, prevention and health inequalities, expanded education and training programmes, and continued growth in audit and accreditation. Our next generation campaign put early-career doctors at the heart of national debate on training and workforce reform, while new resources supported job planning, outpatient care and global health education.
The report also sets out the RCP’s financial position. The college ended 2025 with a small surplus, reflecting careful cost control during a period of continuing financial pressure. Our focus is now on securing long-term sustainability so that we can continue to deliver for our members and fellows and help shape the future of medicine. The RCP’s new 2026–30 strategy will guide our work through four priorities: connection, standards, voice and renewal.
