Advanced skills for medical educators

RCP10003

This is an advanced-level workshop designed for learners with prior knowledge and experience in the fundamentals of teaching skills.

We recommend you attend our Effective teaching skills and/or On-the-job teaching workshops first, or have significant workplace-based teaching experience prior to enrolling for this workshop.

This workshop will suit doctors from all specialities, especially those looking for a portfolio career in medical education, and those in or aspiring to roles such as training programme firector (TPD), director of medical education (DME) or an education lead.

Join this professional development course designed to increase your impact as an educator in clinical and academic settings. This 1-day workshop brings together core principles of contemporary medical education, equipping doctors who lead and have a passion for education with the knowledge and practical tools to teach, assess, and lead with confidence.

In the workshop, participants will explore:

  • Multi-level and multidisciplinary teaching and learning
Discover strategies for engaging diverse learner groups—across specialties, professions, and stages of training—while fostering effective collaboration and shared learning cultures.

  • Curriculum design and alignment
Learn to design coherent, outcome-driven curricula that align learning objectives, teaching methods, and assessment practices to ensure meaningful and measurable learner development.

  • Assessment as a learning tool & evaluation of education
Shift assessment from a judgment exercise to a driver of learning. Gain insight into formative and summative approaches to assessment, feedback techniques, and methods to evaluate educational interventions and programmes.

  • Inclusive policies and practice in medical education
Build the skills and awareness needed to create equitable, accessible, and inclusive learning environments that support all learners and reflect best practice in modern medical training.

Whether you’re shaping the next generation of clinicians, developing programmes, or simply looking to refine your educational practice, this workshop provides a rich foundation for enhancing your role as a medical educator.

Educational theories such as communities of practice, threshold concepts and Kirkpatrick’s model of learning evaluation will be considered alongside a range of practical teaching strategies including simulation, bedside teaching, small and large group teaching and the creation of educational resources.

This workshop is approved for 6 external CPD credits.

This workshop is primarily aimed at senior clinicians.

This unique partnership approach is key to the value and success of our programmes both in the UK and internationally.
