We look forward to welcoming delegates to this one-day Update in medicine conference taking place on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
This is a full-day conference. Refreshments and lunch are provided. Please note we require a minimum of 48 hours' notice to cater for specific dietary requirements.

Update in medicine – Newcastle 2024 delegate
RCP Update in medicine conferences are held across the UK and are delivered by the RCP regional team. These events are designed to provide high-quality education and allow attendees to stay abreast of clinical advancements in medicine, develop professional skills and network with colleagues.
Please note, this is a face-to-face event. We do not provide online access for this series of events.
Physicians and allied health professionals at all levels and across all medical specialties are welcome and encouraged to attend.

A small car park is located at the Hilton which operates on a first come, first served basis and uses automatic number plate recognition. A reduced parking rate will be available for conference delegates when your ticket is validated at reception.
Alternatively, the nearest car park is located at The Glasshouse (NE8 2BA), a flat rate fee is available if you pay on arrival.
The Tyne and Wear Metro park and ride is another option, the closest stations are Gateshead metro station (9-minute walk) and Newcastle Central station (12-minute walk).

Dr Shalabh Srivastava
Dr.Srivastava qualified from Stanley Medical College trained in nephrology at Barts and The London and then in Newcastle upon Tyne. He completed his PhD in Newcastle University and remains active in research. He runs the inherited kidney disease and stone disease clinic in his NHS.
He also manages the pre dialysis patient group. He is one of five interventional nephrologists at the Sunderland diagnostic and interventional nephrology department.
He started the UK’s only postgraduate course in interventional nephrology at Newcastle University and South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS foundation trust.
Dr Nigel Stout, FRCP
Dr Nigel Stout qualified in medicine from Newcastle University in 1992 and studied for a PhD with Prof Rose Anne Kenny. He was appointed as a consultant in general medicine and geriatrics at Sunderland in 2007 and specialises in falls, dizziness and syncope.
Dr Hilary Tedd
Dr Hilary Tedd is a respiratory physician with a specialist interest in assisted ventilation and the respiratory care of adults with a learning disability and neurodisability. She is clinical lead for learning disabilities at Newcastle NHS Foundation Trust and co-authored the British Thoracic Society clinical statements on community acquired pneumonia in people with a learning disability, and on aspiration pneumonia. She is also training programme director for respiratory medicine for the region.
Dr Nick Scriven, FRCP
Dr Nick Scriven has been a consultant in acute and general medicine at CHFT since 2001 after training in the midlands in general and respiratory Medicine.
Over the last years he has been TPD for AIM, deputy chair of the SAC and has filled several roles in the SCE boards for AIM. He has also been a long term supporter of the society for acute medicine including a 9 year spell on the SAM council culminating in being SAM president for 2 years
As well as a full clinical job he is currently an NHSE national advisor for AIM/SDEC and is the joint national lead for AIM ST4 recruitment
In the last 2 years he has added the role of Medica Examiner to his work. He has had an interest in TB since registrar times and has been the TB lead clinician in Calderdale for 20 years.
Dr Dan Bailey, FRCP

Professor Colin Rees
Colin Rees is President of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He is a Professor of gastroenterology at Newcastle University. His research interests include endoscopy and colorectal cancer. He has led some of the world’s largest endoscopy trials recruiting around 30000 patients. He also leads a large colorectal cancer research platform (COLO-SPEED - https://colospeed.uk/)
