FallSafe and CareFall E-learning

Fallsafe And Carefall E Learning

Falls are the most commonly reported type of patient safety incident in healthcare. Although most falls do not result in injury, patients can have psychological and mobility problems as a result of falling. Both modules within this programme have been designed to complement, not replace, local falls prevention policies and processes.

The two modules have been developed in partnership with consultant geriatricians, junior doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and the patient safety team at NHS England. The tool covers the knowledge needed to identify and reduce patient and environmental risk factors to assist with reducing inpatient falls.

FallSafe: Multifactorial assessments and interventions

FallSafe was initially established as an improvement project which involved educating, inspiring and supporting 17 registered nurses from acute, rehabilitation and mental health wards to lead their local multidisciplinary teams in reliably delivering these assessments and interventions through a care bundle approach.

It later developed into an online e-learning course aimed at clinical staff who work in hospital settings including but not limited to nurses, allied health professionals and healthcare assistants.

You can access the course via the e-learning for healthcare website.

The materials and resources that were used in the original project can be downloaded from the FallSafe resources - original webpage.

CareFall: Reducing inpatient falls risks and post fall management

The CareFall e-learning module has been developed for foundation level doctors and includes interactive information about patient and environmental falls risk factors, the patient assessment and post fall management.

You can access the course via the e-learning for healthcare website.

To consolidate learning from the CareFall modules; “Reducing inpatient falls risks” and “post fall management”, there is a CareFall workbook to accompany the course available for download below. The workbook contains further reflection on personal experience and additional case studies to consider.
