Recruitment into the New Consultant Committee takes place once annually. The committee contains seats for 17 regional representatives, co-opted members, chair and deputy chair. Representatives serve a three year tenure. If you would like to join the committee but there are no current vacancies in your region, please feel free to express your interest via email to be kept up to date. The next round of recruitment is scheduled to take place in 2026.
About the role
The New Consultant Committee was established to represent the needs, interests and views of RCP members and fellows who are new consultants or transitioning to this career stage.
Committee members act as ambassadors for their region, sharing useful information and guidance amongst local networks whilst also ensuring the needs and views of their colleagues are shared upwards within the RCP.
The NCC:
- aims to meet the interests and needs of doctors at an important stage of their career
- gives new consultants an opportunity to feed into the development of RCP policy and to contribute to its work
- is represented on a wide range of groups in the RCP, including Council and specialty committees
- inputs to important issues and projects
- supports the development of events and resources for new consultants, including RCP Launchpad, new consultant forums and the biennial national conference
- meets three times per year (2 digital meetings, 1 in-person).

To be eligible you must have been appointed to your first consultant's post within the last five years (i.e. during or after April 2020) and be an RCP subscribing member in good standing. If you are not a member, you'll need to join the RCP.
Representatives serve a three year tenure.

If you are interested in representing your region, please send the following to committee manager Elaine Storey via newconsultants.committee@rcp.ac.uk by 5pm on Monday 12 May 2025:
- completed application form
- short statement within the application form (200 words maximum) explaining why you would like to be on the NCC and what relevant skills you can bring
- short CV (two pages maximum).
If the number of applications for a region received are equal to or fewer than the number of advertised vacancies, the RCP registrar will review the application(s) for suitability with input from the NCC chair. If more applications for a region than vacancies present are received, the RCP Nominations Committee will review them.
The NCC’s terms of reference are currently under review by committee members but can be supplied upon request.
