The RCP Educator accreditation is a flexible, modular programme that offers formal training on how to teach doctors effectively in a range of settings. It is suited to doctors at any stage of their career who are interested in developing their own educational practice.
The RCP Educator accreditation is suitable for doctors of all grades and specialties who have an interest in medical education. Previous delegates have commented on how beneficial they found being in teaching sessions of fellow doctors with such a range of teaching experience and career perspective.
The accreditation is usually completed within two years and requires delegates to attend, at their own convenience, the following four short courses.
These four courses can be attended in any order, although we recommend starting your accreditation with either 'Effective teaching skills', 'On-the-job teaching' or 'Workplace-based assessment', prior to starting the Peer Support Network.
We advise delegates to book onto a Peer Support Network cohort well in advance, as the course does become fully booked very quickly.
The RCP Educator accreditation is open to all doctors with an interest in medical education and there is no need to apply. Simply book onto a Peer Support Network cohort in order to be automatically enrolled onto the accreditation programme.
Once you have attended all four courses of the accreditation programme and have passed your Peer Support Network assessments, you will receive a certificate confirming that you have successfully achieved the RCP Educator accreditation.
The Peer Support Network assessments consist of two short, reflective assignments that you will submit during your Peer Support Network course. Each assignment will be based on a small-scale, educational initiative that you implement and evaluate in your own workplace. Your designated PSN tutor will support you in the development of your assessed work, along with the input of your cohort peers and the guidance of interactive teaching sessions.
We recommend that delegates complete all four courses of the accreditation within 2 years. However, we understand that busy work schedules can sometimes make this difficult, so delegates will not be penalised for taking longer than 2 years to complete.
