The Diploma in Global Health (DGH) is a newly established qualification, developed and awarded by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This diploma is granted upon successfully passing a comprehensive 200-item online knowledge-based assessment.

This assessment offers generalist and specialist doctors worldwide the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and experience in global health medicine. Through a high-quality syllabus, focused on innovative, and evidence-based healthcare, the diploma aims to enhance patient care and improve the organisation of health services in resource limited and humanitarian settings.
The DGH assesses a candidate’s clinical knowledge across the following areas:
- Child health
- Clinical infectious diseases
- Global public health
- Humanitarian medicine
- Mental health
- Non communicable disease
- Women's health.
Am I eligible?
The DGH is designed for doctors who want to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in global health. It is recommended that those wishing to sit the examination have at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience, and have experience working in global health and/or humanitarian intervention settings, particularly those areas outlined above.
When is the first exam scheduled to happen and what is the cost?
We are planning the first online knowledge-based assessment in July 2025.
Applications will open in April 2025. The cost per candidate is £330.
What is the examination structure?
This knowledge-based assessment is held online once a year. It comprises of a single 200–item single best answer knowledge-based assessment, which is delivered as two 100–item papers sat on the same day.
