The RCP's educational supervisor workshop and accreditation has been developed to meet the latest General Medical Council (GMC) standards and give formal recognition to those with an explicit supervision role.

Updated in line with the 2022 Gold Guide, this course addresses the seven areas of the Academy of Medical Educators’ Framework for the Professional Development of Postgraduate Medical Supervisors and the General Medical Council (GMC) standards for the recognition and approval of trainers.

What will I learn?

The 2-day workshop includes:

  • essential knowledge and skills for educational supervisors
  • how to make best use of the curriculum and eportfolio to support your resident doctors
  • objective setting: helping your resident doctors to set clear goals
  • the effective appraisal process
  • giving effective feedback to resident doctors
  • supporting underperforming residents doctors
  • the role of ARCP and supervisor’s report.

This workshop is approved for 12 external CPD credits.   

This course is suitable for doctors who are supervising resident doctors of any grade and specialty, or for those who are soon to become educational supervisors, including:

  • all specialties
  • SAS
  • final-year resident doctors, consultants and senior leaders.

The RCP provides RCP accreditation for several of our established programmes and also extends the opportunity to learners on commissioned and bespoke programmes.  

The format for achieving RCP accreditation is to participate in the workshop(s) or programme and then submit a short reflective assignment for review by a member of the RCP faculty. 

There is no need to apply separately for the RCP accreditation, simply book onto the relevant workshop(s) or programmes in order to be automatically enrolled for the accreditation.

This event is delivered on regular dates throughout the year. You can join us in-person at the RCP venue in London (RCP Regent’s Park), or Liverpool (RCP at the Spine), or join a virtual classroom session and attend online from the comfort of your own home or office. We are increasingly delivering our most popular workshops in regional centres as well. So keep an eye on all available dates and locations via the booking links at the bottom of the page.

Resident members will pay slightly less than consultant members, and our virtual classroom events are priced lower than in-person sessions to ensure professional development is accessible and affordable to everyone. You must be logged in as an RCP Member to be eligible for the membership rates.
