Dr Ruth Sharrock

Consultant respiratory physician, clinical lead for tobacco, lung cancer and health inequalities, Northern Cancer Alliance

Dr Ruth Sharrock is a respiratory and general medicine physician in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

 

She campaigned for better access to smoking cessation support for hospital inpatients and thereby became involved in regional delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan for Tobacco Dependency Treatment Services. This has extended to advocacy on behalf of the regional tobacco control programme, Fresh, and led to parliament and national and international platforms. Local improvement work in the lung cancer pathway has similarly led to significant regional opportunities.

Dr Colin Doig

Consultant cardiologist and physician, medical director (professional standards), Northumbria Healthcare NHSFT, medical director for lead employer trust

Dr Doig trained as a cardiologist and physician in Glasgow, Newcastle and Toronto, and has been a consultant cardiologist and physician since 1995.

He has “led” GIM in the northern region since 2000 and has been GIM SAC Chair since 2022. His major management role at present is medical director (professional standards) for the trust, responsible officer for the trust, and medical director for the lead employer trust – this role is principally involved with doctors in training who have found themselves in non-clinical problems. 

Dr Anneka Solomonsz

Consultant geriatrician

Dr Solomonsz is a consultant geriatrician working at the Royal Derby Hospital.

She joined there as a new consultant in May 2022 after completing her registrar training in the East Midlands Deanery. Prior to that all of Anneka's foundation and core medical training was in Yorkshire having stayed there following her medical degree at the University of Leeds.

She has a specialist interest in Ortho-geriatrics and osteoporosis and leads the Ortho-geriatrics service at RDH. She has also recently taken on the role of departmental mortality lead, which is an interesting element of her job plan linking into discussions with numerous other teams

Dr Charlotte Hubert

Consultant geriatrician, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

As a new consultant geriatrician, Dr Hubert is embarking on the early stages of her career at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton with enthusiasm. Charlotte trained in the East Midlands where she has held the role of chief registrar and associate college tutor. She has garnered an interest in frailty, advance care planning and improving the experience of rotating junior doctors.
