This digital new consultants forum offers practical help and support for new consultants in their first five years of being in post, senior registrars in their final years of training, and SAS doctors of equivalent grades.

The programme for this meeting is worth 2 CPD credits. It has been compiled by RCP New Consultants Committee representatives Dr Kamran Mushtaq and Dr Anna Street and will be available to download soon.

Discussion will commence at 2pm and conclude at approximately 4.15pm.

Topics include:

Maximising appraisals
Giving quality feedback
Helping a doctor requiring additional support.

Please note, this is not a nation/region specific event and delegates are welcome and encouraged to attend regardless of work or home location.

This online meeting is free for RCP subscribing members.

How to join the meeting

This virtual forum will take place via Microsoft Teams. Discussion will begin at 2pm and end at approximately 4.15pm.

You will require access to Microsoft Teams and a reliable internet connection. We recommend downloading the app for full functionality.

Once you have registered for this event, you will receive the joining instructions and a link to the Microsoft Teams call where this forum will take place. You will also receive a digital calendar invitation.

Can I watch on demand?

These forums offer an open environment for discussion and are not readily available to watch on demand. However a selection of talks we are given permission to record by speakers may be available to watch via RCP Launchpad - our exclusive member-only resource platform.

Please note, the content is only externally CPD validated when joining live and we encourage you to join us on the day to make the most of the meeting.

New consultants in their first five years of being in post, resident doctors in their final year of training, and SAS doctors of equivalent grades.

You do not have to be an RCP subscribing member to attend this event, but you may wish to consider becoming a member and benefiting from discounted registration fees.

Whilst the content is aimed at physicians, other healthcare professionals may find some of the talks and discussion to be useful and are welcome at these events.

Dr Clive Lewis FRCP

Dr Lewis is a key opinion leader in advanced heart failure, cardiothoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at Royal Papworth Hospital.

Dr Lewis is a strong advocate of effective medical education and is currently associate medical director, lead appraiser and until recently director of medical education. He holds various roles in leadership, education and research, being course director for the British cardiovascular society emerging leader programme and clinical lead for the RCP chief registrar leadership programme.

Nationally, Dr Lewis has held a number of positions, including the trainees (deputy chair) and New consultants committee (secretary) of the RCP, the academy of medical royal colleges, the national association of clinical tutors council (secretary) and health education East of England associate dean. Dr Lewis is a regular invited speaker and session chair for international academic meetings and is immediate past president of the European society for heart and lung transplantation.

Mr Steve Andrews

Mr Andrews is a former senior nurse for children and young peoples cancer and since retraining with an MSC in organisational behaviour 10 years ago he now supports staff development.

Professor Shahedal Bari FRCP

Professor Bari is member of the education faculty at RCP, honorary clinical professor at Lancaster University, non executive director at East Lancashire NHS Trust (non voting), experienced past executive director and responsible officer in the UK with board level experience with a multisite trust and served as director of medical education, a rare blend of academic and healthcare leadership.

He is a board member at RCP Federation UK (National CCT SCE board, co-chair of respiratory CCT question writer group). He continues to provide support for colleagues and learners as a senior clinician. He is also a PACES examiner and takes part in under graduate and post graduate assessment and quality control of medical education.

He drove changes through compassionate leadership in UHMBT in his successful stint as executive medical director during COVID and led the work on pathways and clinical prioritisation to successfully drive the COVID response. He is principal investigator for RECOVERY trail for COVID.

He is the chair of the Lancashire and South Cumbria lung cancer network site specific group (CRG) and driving cancer care forward for the region.
