Six golden rules video resource

Background and recommendations

Osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break. Any such fracture approximately doubles the risk of another, most likely to occur in the following two years. Fortunately, thousands of these cases could be avoided if more patients were to undergo rapid assessment and timely treatment post-fracture.

Intended to complement the strong bones after 50 toolkit and bone health card, the six golden rules video provides advice to patients who have been recommended to take medication by mouth for osteoporosis, including encouraging patients to:

  • talk about their diagnosis with members of their GP practice
  • start their bone health treatment straight away
  • take medication as prescribed and discuss side effects.

This resource was co-produced with members from the FFFAP patient and carer panel - we hope that sharing information produced by patients, for patients, will help inform individuals about bone health and fracture prevention and help to promote patient confidence when approaching doctors to ask for further investigations.
