IBD UK: Vacancies for RCP Reps

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is seeking FRCPs to represent RCP on the Board of IBD UK.

IBD UK is a partnership of 16 professional bodies, royal colleges and patient organisations working together to improve care and treatment for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Their main aim is to ensure that everyone with IBD has consistent, safe, high-quality personalised care, whatever their age and wherever they live in the UK.

IBD UK was set up in 2017 to embed a culture of quality improvement in IBD services and care in order to deliver continued progress. Stakeholders working in IBD recognised and agreed the need for an overarching UK-wide ‘strategy’ group/partnership to represent all the key organisations responsible for improving services and outcomes for people with IBD.

In 2019, IBD UK created the IBD Standards, which outline what high-quality care should look like at every point of a patient’s journey. Since then, the Standards have formed the basis of IBD UK Benchmarking. Comprised of a Patient Survey and a Service Survey, the IBD UK Benchmarking combines data from patients and IBD services to build a holistic picture of how UK IBD services are performing against the Standards. Our latest round of Benchmarking took place in 2023, with service-specific reports launched earlier in 2024, and a National Report and Devolved Nation reports to be published in December.

In 2025, IBD UK are looking to review and update the IBD Standards. Members of the IBD UK Board will be crucial to any amendments made to the Standards and will be consulted throughout. With all IBD UK projects, the IBD UK Board has oversight and make all final decisions. As a member organisation of IBD UK, the RCP seeks to nominate a leading representative and an alternate who will be required to attend meetings and take part in working groups on behalf of their organisation.

The IBD UK Board will meet at least three times a year, often meeting once per quarter, with meetings lasting for an hour and a half. Appointment for representatives will be three years, after which the nominating organisation will be asked to confirm reappointment or nominate a new representative. Members will represent the views of the organisations or patient group they represent and are responsible for providing feedback and consulting with their representative body. Members who fail to attend two or more consecutive meetings should review whether they have sufficient capacity, and their representative body may be contacted and asked to provide another nominee.

The RCP are looking to appoint both a primary representative and an alternate representative.
