The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is seeking applications from one of its fellows to fill a vacancy for a senior academic clinician on the Research and Academic Medicine Committee (RAMC) for a term of 3 years.
The RAMC brings together representatives from the RCP and other national stakeholders in academic medicine, to share information and facilitate collaboration. Membership includes officers of the RCP, senior and junior consultants, a resident doctor representative and a member from the RCP’s Patient and Carer Network.
The RAMC aims to provide advice, information and assistance for academics and research-active clinicians at all levels and career stages and to reflect the importance of research to the NHS. Among other things, it does this by:
- raising awareness of the importance of clinical academic medicine to the members and fellows of the RCP
- promoting research and innovation in medicine
- being the source of mentorship and guidance to those seeking a career in academic medicine
- encouraging resident doctors to have some involvement in research as part of their training programmes
- encouraging doctors to become involved in research at any stage of their career but particularly new consultants from non-teaching hospitals undertaking research with little or no protected time allocated for academic study.
The R&AMC is chaired by the academic vice president, Professor Tom Solomon, and meets twice a year.
