Shape the future of healthcare as the RCP’s next deputy registrar

The RCP invites applications from fellows for the position of deputy registrar. This role offers the opportunity to oversee the RCP fellowship process, engage directly with the membership, and contribute to the strategic direction and implementation of the membership team.

About the role

  • Start date: April 2025.
  • Term: Initial 3-year term, extendable to 4 years by mutual agreement.
  • Eligibility: Open to fellows in good standing with the RCP, your employer and the GMC. Job-share applications are welcomed, provided agreements are established between applicants prior to submission. 
  • Commitment: Equivalent to 2 days per week using external duty or job-planned time.
  • Remuneration: The role is unsalaried; however, a clinician release supplement of up to £12,000 per annum is available to support employer backfill costs. Eligible expenses are reimbursed in accordance with the RCP’s travel policy.

Key responsibilities

The deputy registrar will:

  • provide operational oversight of the RCP fellowship process and work collaboratively with the registrar on its strategic development, including reporting to RCP Council
  • collaborate with the membership engagement team, regional advisers and regional managers to strengthen connections between elected and appointed regional representatives across the country
  • play a key role in the development and implementation of the RCP membership engagement strategy
  • represent the RCP at governance meetings, committees and other key events 
  • lead initiatives promoting the professional development of physicians across all career stages, with an emphasis on supporting career pathways beyond traditional training structures.
