The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Assessment Unit is seeking to appoint several members to the Diploma in Global Health (DGH) Examination Board.
The DGH takes place annually and consist of a 200 single best answer knowledge-based assessment (KBA), delivered over two papers, each two and a half hours in duration. The KBA is delivered online, enabling candidates to take the assessment at home or in the workplace.
Responsibilities
The DGH Examination Board has the responsibility to ensure that the DGH KBA is conducted appropriately and in line with the approved regulations for these assessments, wider regulatory frameworks (e.g. Equality Act, GDPR) and applicable RCP procedures throughout the lifecycle of the assessment process, including for example:
- Setting and delivery of the assessments
- Review of question performance
- Review of candidate performance
- Sign-off of results for each assessment period.
Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
- be registered and in good standing with the General Medical Council (or equivalent in the applicant’s country of practice)
- have at least 5 years post-registration experience
- be in active practice in one of the following areas:

- General medicine
- Humanitarian medicine
- Infectious diseases
- Obstetrics and gynaecology
- Paediatrics
- Public health.
- be up-to-date as appropriate with relevant global health guidelines, CPD requirements, employer’s equality and diversity training and appraisal process
- interested in, but not necessarily expert in, medical academic assessments.

The independent members of the examination board meet for half a day to review question performance following each KBA. The full examination board then meet following this to review and ratify results. Meetings are held virtually via Microsoft Teams.
The tenure of the appointment is three years, with the potential for extension as appropriate, particularly in cases of long-term absence (illness or maternity leave, for example), or to ensure orderly succession planning. Any extensions will be at the discretion of the RCP Assessment Unit.
All successful applicants will be required to sign non-disclosure and code of conduct agreements.
This is a non-salaried position, though all reasonable expenses and travel costs will be met by the Education Department in line with the RCP expenses policy.
