Nominations open for clinical vice president

As Dr John Dean nears the end of his successful term as clinical vice president (CVP), fellows may nominate candidates for the role to serve between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2028.

The downloads below provide further information on election arrangements – including timetable, canvassing and code of practice for candidates.

Clinical vice president (CVP)

The CVP is nominated by RCP Council (based on nominations received from the fellowship) and elected by the fellows of the RCP. Nominees should have at least 5 years’ standing as a fellow by end of the nomination period. You will be expected to demonstrate interest and experience in the improvement and delivery of high-quality clinical services and patient safety at a local, regional or national level. You will provide leadership to the RCP for clinical service improvement and patient safety, working with other clinical leaders within the RCP, medical specialties and the NHS to deliver this remit. A two-person job-share arrangement is possible for this role.

The elected candidate will shadow Dr Dean and then take up office on 1 August 2025.

Candidates are asked to submit a CV (4 page maximum) with details of their interests and experience by the nomination deadline, to assist Council in drawing up the ballot list. After considering nominations, Council will approve a list of candidates. The new clinical vice president will be elected via an online ballot that RCP fellows will be invited to vote in.

Nominations for clinical vice president must be supported by three fellows and the nominee must have been a fellow for at least five years, by the close of the nomination period.

A detailed role description and other supporting information can be downloaded below.

Anyone nominated must have agreed to stand for election and be aware that they are being nominated.
