Information for employing bodies

Starting the application

If you are looking to interview or have already interviewed an overseas qualified doctor, please direct them to the RCP pages dedicated to applicants.

Candidates can start the application process for the RCP GMC sponsorship scheme once they have secured a suitable post.

Once the candidate has been offered the post and started the RCP online application, we will contact the employing organisation, requesting the following documents:

  • Hospital form (form will be sent by RCP team)
  • Offer of placement letter
  • Interview notes 
  • Job description

Costs associated with the GMC sponsorship scheme

The RCP charges an application fee to cover some of the administration costs involved in administering the GMC registration, as well as the work involved in supporting doctors throughout their training in the UK, including organising dedicated events and providing pastoral support. This fee can be paid by the employing NHS organisations and/or by the doctor requiring GMC registration.

The RCP application fee is £1020 which comprises of:

  • £300 initial fee. This is a non-refundable fee payable when the application is submitted
  • £720 application fee, payable when approved for sponsorship by the RCP.

Visa information

The RCP GMC sponsorship scheme offers GMC registration only and does not provide a visa. Candidates will obtain their visa from their employing NHS organisation (typically a Health and Care visa).
