General Medical Council (GMC) sponsorship scheme

Overview and resources for employing bodies

The RCP GMC sponsorship scheme is for internationally qualified doctors (typically grade IMT3 and above) seeking short-term development opportunities in the NHS. It is a sister scheme of the RCP Medical Training Initiative (MTI) and predominantly benefits doctors who do not require a Government Authorised Exchange visa (formerly Tier 5).

If your NHS organisation has a vacancy suitable for such a position, or if you have already identified a doctor for a post, this page will guide you through how the RCP can support the process ensuring a mutually beneficial learning and training experience.

Benefits for employing organisations
