International advisers (IAs) are RCP fellows who are appointed to represent an area of the world.
They work alongside their peers and our team of associate global directors (AGDs) to engage with members and fellows, promote our work and seek opportunities for collaboration.
Dr Georgi Abraham is a professor and senior consultant in nephrology. Currently based at MGM Healthcare, he has over 40 years of healthcare experience. Georgi’s interests include medical education, clinical research and clinical care in general medicine and nephrology.
Georgi is a PACES coordinator and began the first PACES centre for the South Asia region in Chennai, India, in 2007. He has supported the federation of colleges in establishing other centres in India and neighbouring countries.
He has received several regional and international recognition awards in nephrology and general medicine and supports fellowship candidates from India.
Professor Javed Akram is a professor of medicine in Pakistan who graduated from King Edward Medical College, Lahore in 1978 and later trained in the UK and USA.
Professor Akram served on several key positions including vice chancellor of the University of Health Sciences Lahore and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Islamabad and principal of the Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore.
In recognition of his services, Professor Javed Akram has been awarded the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for research on Parkinson’s disease, Best Research Award by National Academy of Medical Sciences, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (2011) by the President of Pakistan, Lifetime Achievement Award (2022) by the Government College University, Lahore and Presidential Award for his services in Diabetes Care in Pakistan by the President of Pakistan.
Dr Al-Abri is a consultant in infectious diseases, director general for disease surveillance and control at the Ministry of Health in Oman.
He is the national focal point of IHR and a member of the IHR review committee, convened by the WHO director general.
Seif has an interest in medical education, was lead examiner for the MRCP examination in Oman until 2015, and chairman of the governing council of Oman medical college for four years. Currently a member of the governing council of the National University of Science and Technology, he is an associate editor of medical journals.
Dr Ala' Al-Heresh is a senior consultant rheumatologist, founder and ex- head of the rheumatology unit since 1996, King Hussein Medical centre, Jordan.
He did his training in internal medicine in the United Kingdom at Kent and Canterbury hospital. He was awarded the diploma of membership of the Royal College MRCP (UK) 1992, and the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London 2003 FRCP (London). He is a member of many professional national and international bodies, the previous president of the Jordanian Rheumatism Society, and a member of the higher scientific committee of the Jordan Medical Council.
His main interest is connective tissue diseases and vasculitis, and he has published many related articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Professor Zaw Lynn studied at the Institute of Medicine Yangon in 1984 and gained a Master of Medical Sciences in 1992. For 20 years, Zaw has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses and is federation lead examiner in Myanmar.
Currently a senior consultant physician at Bahosi Private Hospital Yangon, Zaw has served as professor/head of department of medicine at the University of Medicine Yangon for over 15 years. He is also involved in medical education seminars as a speaker.
For the past 12 years, he has been taking responsibilities as in charge of on call as consultant physician and professor of medicine.
After completing cardiovascular fellowship training with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Bruce began practicing clinical and preventative cardiology in the small twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago.
Active in both public and private sector healthcare, Bruce has championed early and comprehensive screening and risk mitigation to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in his country.
He is committed to helping Caribbean junior doctors access Medical Training Initiative programmes in the UK and avidly promotes the Specialty Certificate Exams as a valid means for local physicians to demonstrate evidence of advanced training.
Dr Michael Boyne has a BSc in biochemistry and an MBBS degree from the University of the West Indies.
Michael went on to do a residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia (Roanoke) and a clinical research fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Currently, he is a professor of endocrinology and metabolism in the Department of Medicine at the University of the West Indies and an honorary consultant at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
His academic interests include the roles of nutrition and hormones in the developmental origins of diabetes.
Dr Ian Chan is a geriatrician in Hong Kong SAR, China. He was appointed as (honorary) clinical associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and honorary clinical assistant professor at The University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Chan initially specialised in critical care medicine, before subsequently developing his role in geriatric medicine and patient safety. He received training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, focusing on MDT and POPS.
He has a particular interest in medical education. He was awarded Exemplary Teachers’ Awards twice. He actively participated in teaching in Crew Resources Management and simulation training.
Dr Chaudhry graduated from the University of Punjab in 1969 and then came to the UK.
He has been appointed in numerous fellowship roles, served as an advisor to the WHO, and is a member of the IHR roster of experts in acute respiratory syndrome and influenza.
Akbar has an interest in medical education and improvement, has been involved in multiple research projects, and has been published extensively. Dr Chaudhry was awarded the president gold medals in 1999 and 2002 and has been on the International advisory board of Kumar & Clark's clinical medicine from the 6th edition onwards.
Professor Chia is head of the Department of Medical Sciences at Sunway University, Malaysia. She has a wealth of experience in postgraduate training and remains an honorary professor at the University of Malaya.
Dr Chia is a hypertension specialist of the European Society of Hypertension and much of her clinical work and research is in this area.
Since joining Sunway University, Dr Chia initiated a postgraduate training programme in geriatric medicine for primary care doctors. With the help of the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine, the programme was launched in January 2020.
Professor Sir Tumani Corrah is Emeritus director of the Medical Research Unit in the Gambia at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
For forty years, he has pursued his passions of improving outcomes in patient care in challenging environments, researching diseases that impact the developing world disproportionately and building human capacity in health research in Africa.
He is the founder and president of the Africa Research Excellence Fund. A charity that provides support to talented emerging postdoctoral African health researchers, at the most vulnerable point in their careers, with the knowledge and soft skills to win funding for their research and to remain in Africa.
Arosha is a professor of medicine and head of department at the University of Ruhuna and a consultant physician at the Teaching Hospital in Karapitiya, Galle.
He is the international editor of Clinical Medicine, and his research and clinical interests include medical humanities, clinical ethics and diabetes. Arosha is a past president of the Ceylon College of Physicians and the Galle Medical Association.
Dr Eliades was born into a family related to medicine in Cyprus. He obtained his medical diploma in Athens before moving to the UK to complete his medical training.
Currently, Christos practices as a consultant paediatrician at Ygeia Polyclinic and TPM hospital Akrotiri with British Forces. He also practices general medicine and paediatrics under the National Health System of Cyprus.
He is involved in undergraduate training and postgraduate lectures and presentations with the main interest being strengthening the links between the UK and Cyprus.
Professor Gangaidzo gained his degree in medicine in 1984.
After training in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Innocent has been a member of the College of Health Sciences since 1989. He also holds a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene.
Professor Gangaidzo is president of the East, Central, and Southern Africa College of Physicians, and has held several grants from international bodies. Innocent has published over 40 original articles in international journals and is currently editor-in-chief for the central African journal of medicine.
Dr Peter Goulden has been medical director and associate professor at Mount Sinai Morningside/West in New York City since 2019.
Peter's medical interests include general endocrinology and type 1/type two diabetes. He received his medical degree from Edinburgh University in 1995 and completed his training in internal medicine in 2000. He served as a specialist registrar in endocrinology and diabetes, and as an NHS consultant for six years, also serving as royal college tutor.
He was medical director at the University of Arkansas for medical science from 2012–19 and received a $2million PCORI grant to improve diabetes education in the underserved.
Abdulrazaq is a professor of infectious and tropical diseases and epidemiology. He trained in Nigeria, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
He is an honorary consultant physician in infectious and tropical diseases at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano and has been for over two decades. His research focuses on infectious diseases, tropical snakebites and global health including COVID-19. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and was the former dean for the Faculty of Medicine and later foundation provost college of health sciences at Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria.
He serves as an adviser, member and trustee to several national and international organisations. He is president of the International Society on Toxinology, Africa & Middle East.
Dr Saeed Sadiq Hamid is a professor at the Department of Medicine and director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan.
He has been the chair of the Hepatology Interest Group of the World Gastroenterology Organisation, member of the Governing Council of WGO, member of the Executive Council of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) from 2006-2010 and has chaired the WHO Guidelines Development Group for Hepatitis C in 2015, 2017 and 2021. He sits on advisory committees of the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE) and the Hepatitis Fund.
His main research interests are viral hepatitis and liver failure.
Before his retirement, Dr Eluzai Hakim was consultant physician in rehabilitation medicine at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport and continues to locum in stroke medicine.
He has taught and examined medical students in the final OSCE and is a current PACES examiner at the RCP. Upon retirement, he was a joint recipient of the ‘Educator of the year’.
He founded the South Sudan medical journal and is currently associate editor. He sits on the Executive Committee of the Gordon Memorial College Trust Fund, a charity supporting postgraduate training for Sudanese students.
Dr Mahmud Hasan obtained a postgrad in medicine in Dhaka.
He then trained as a gastroenterologist and conducted research leading to a PhD in Edinburgh. Dr Hasan taught gastroenterology in Bangladesh and set the foundation for the specialty. As a former vice-chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, he was also elected as president of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Twice elected president of Bangladesh Medical Association and president of Bangladesh Medical Research Council, Dr Hasan received the National Award of Ekushey Padak in 2017. The President of the country appointed him National Professor in 2021.
Dr Yeo Siaw Ing is a senior consultant in rheumatology and immunology at Singapore General Hospital.
Having graduated from the United Medical School of Guy’s and St Thomas' Hospital, Dr Yeo completed her specialist training in rheumatology and general internal medicine with the London Deanery. She was Honorary Clinical Associate to the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Department of Medicine, University of Hong Kong 2006-2013.
Currently, at Singapore General Hospital she is department director of clinical services, chairman of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee, and core faculty to the rheumatology residency programme. Dr Yeo supports multiple Medicine schools, holding clinical teacher and senior lecturer posts.
Dr Hariharan Iyer is a transplant nephrologist and an associate professor of medicine at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University, London, Ontario, Canada. He is certified in renal transplantation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Society of Transplantation and European Board of Transplant Medicine.
Hariharan is currently the programme director for nephrology and renal transplant fellowship programmes at his institution and an MRCP PACES examiner. His special interests include approaches to expanding living donor renal transplantation such as positive cross-match and ABO incompatible transplantation, paired kidney exchange and desensitisation protocols.
Dr James Jowi studied for his medical degree in Nairobi in 1981, before going on to gain a master's in internal medicine in 1987.
A practising neurologist, James was chief medical specialist and neurologist at Kenyatta national hospital for 12 years and, chairman/associate professor at Maseno University in Kenya for 5 years.
Currently, James is vice president and chair of the examinations and assessment committee at the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians and has written numerous papers in relation to neurological disorders.
Giridhar Kalamangalam is a Wilder Family Professor at the University of Florida. Giri completed medical school at the Jawaharlal Institute (JIPMER) in Puducherri, India.
Professor Kalamangalam earned a research doctorate in mathematical biology from Oxford before returning to clinical training in the NHS.
He was fellowship trained in clinical neurophysiology at Cleveland Clinic. He was briefly a consultant neurologist in Glasgow before moving to an academic career path in the USA. Giri’s work is devoted to clinical care and research in epilepsy. More generally, he is interested in healthcare models and training in epilepsy and neurology in international settings.
An ex-Ugandan and a Leeds graduate, Zaheer is a consultant cardiologist and clinical professor at the University of Alberta.
An avid Rotarian, after a year on sabbatical at a Tanzanian hospital, he has been heavily involved for over two decades in supporting medical outreach programmes to many East African institutions and serves as an external examiner for M.Med candidates at two Ugandan medical schools.
His role as PACES examiner for the past decade, and engagement with the RCP global office has enabled him to cement stronger relationships with like-minded British colleagues committed to global health equity.
Dr Michael Lazarus obtained his MBBCh degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He completed internal medicine residency training at Washington University, School of Medicine in St. Louis.
After obtaining board certification in internal medicine, he joined the faculty at Washington University. In 2003, he moved to David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA to head the Hospitalist Section.
He is currently associate chair of the division of general internal medicine and serving a five-year term as governor of the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Physicians. His main academic focus is teaching clinical skills.
Professor Foluso Lesi has been in medical practice for over 30 years as a specialist in neuro-developmental paediatrics. Since 1995, he has been teaching, researching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate doctors.
He has held many leadership positions, including being a former secretary general of the West African College of Physicians (WACP). Most recently the immediate past provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
He is currently director of the International Office of the WACP and a foundation fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and the Academy of Medicine Specialties.
Professor Macrae is head of colorectal medicine and genetics at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Finlay's clinical practice is in inflammatory bowel disease, early detection, and prevention of colorectal cancer, and risk assessment and management of familial GI cancers. His department manages the curation of genes predisposing to GI cancers through LOVD and as part of the NIH ClinGen process.
He founded and chairs the Australian and New Zealand Gastroenterology International Training Association, which has 200+ members. They volunteer for ANZGITA's training programmes in several countries around the world. He chaired the World Gastroenterology Organisation Training Centres Committee 2017-2021.
Professor Alejandro Madrigal is a world leader in Immunotherapy and stem cell transplantation, who trained at the UNAM, Harvard, Stanford, and University College London (UCL).
He is professor of haematology at UCL, and consultant at the Royal Free Hospital, and has been the founder and first scientific director of the Anthony Nolan Research Institute.
Alejandro has published over 500 articles in journals, delivered over 580 conferences across over 50 countries, and has trained over 100 doctors and scientists. He has also been UCL vice provost for America.
Professor Richard Maude is head of the epidemiology department at Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Bangkok, Thailand, where he has worked since 2007.
An associate professor in tropical medicine and assistant director of Graduate Studies at the University of Oxford, he works part-time as an honorary consultant physician at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He is a visiting professor at the Open University, visiting associate professor at the University of Hong Kong, and visiting scientist at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. His research focuses on the epidemiology of infectious diseases in Asia, for which he collaborates with governments across the region.
Dr Medveczky is a consultant respiratory and general internal medicine physician and honorary senior clinical lecturer.
After growing up in Poland and Germany, he qualified in medicine at the Charité, Humboldt University of Berlin and continued his training in England. His training included rotations through Sussex and London teaching hospitals, where he completed his specialist training at centres such as Guy's and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. He has been a consultant and held several senior positions as a clinical lead and director for many years. He continues to work clinically and teach students alongside his managerial duties.
Dr. Ismail Merican is consultant hepatologist/internal medicine specialist at Prince Court Medical Centre in Malaysia and set up the first specialised hepatology service. Ismail is also pro-chancellor/chairman of the Board of Governors of MAHSA University.
Between 2005–2011, Dr Merican was the director of health of Malaysia, president of the Malaysian Medical Council, and chairman for a number of health-related boards and authorities.
He received the Commonwealth Fellowship Award by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for training in hepatology at the Royal Free Hospital in 1991.
Dr Aram Mirza is consultant interventional cardiologist. Born in Suleimani, Kurdistan region, Iraq, he studied at the school of medicine there and completed his postgraduate study in the field of interventional cardiology in 2004.
He founded the first catheterisation laboratory and cardiac hospital in Suleimani. Since then he has done more than 25,000 cases, including cardiac and non-cardiac intervention with structural heart. He is leading a referral tertiary cardiac hospital and is responsible for postgraduate trainees, having more than 20 international publications and more than 100 presentations in national and international conferences.
Dr Reem Hamdy is a professor of rheumatology and clinical immunology, who graduated from and works at the Kasr Alainy School of Medicine, Cairo University.
Reem has delivered teaching and training to Egyptian and international visiting medical students in the field of rheumatology and clinical immunology.
She was the first medical professor to introduce, design and train a course on the ‘establishment of the evidence-based strategy in medical research and practice’ at the faculty leadership development centre, Cairo University. She is an editor and reviewer for several international medical journals and publishers. Reem is also an advisory board member in several influential journals, author and co-author of publications, and an international speaker in the field of rheumatology and immunology.
Shakir has an interest in interstitial lung diseases and sleep-related respiratory disorders. He is editor-in-chief of the Iraqi New Medical Journal, a peer-reviewed medical journal of the Ministry of Health in Iraq.
He is head of the research management unit at the National Centre for Training and Human Development and a recognised trainer by the MoH in Iraq in medical research, evidence-based medicine, and the publication of medical journals.
Professor Ntobeko Ntusi is a cardiologist, professor of medicine, and the chair and head of medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH). He is the clinical lead for cardiovascular magnetic resonance at UCT and GSH.
Ntobeko is a principal investigator based at the Cape Heart Institute and the Cape Universities Body Imaging Centre. He is a collaborating investigator at the Wellcome Trust Centre for infectious diseases research in Africa. He is the editor-in-chief of the South African Heart Journal and serves as an associate editor for circulation and BMC medical imaging.
He has been actively engaged and contributed to an improved understanding of cardiomyopathy, inflammatory heart disease, and heart failure in South Africa and globally. Ntobeko is an active member of the Council of Physicians of South Africa and is a member of the Senate of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
Professor Thin Thin Nwe is now working as a professor and head, department of medicine, University of Medicine 1, Yangon. She qualified in 1987 and has a master’s degree and a doctorate in general medicine.
She is a fellow of the RCP and a PACES examiner. On behalf of Burma/Myanmar, she would like to collaborate with the RCP to train more members and fellows in Burma/Myanmar. She looks forward to cooperating with the MTI training program and participating in online teaching platforms, webinars and conferences.
Edith Okeke is a professor of general internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Jos.
She leads the GI unit of the Jos University Teaching hospital, where she has been teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate doctors for over 30 years.
She is a subspecialty examiner at the West African College of Physicians. Professor Okeke is a member of the Society of Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists in Nigeria (SOGHIN) as well as the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr Oloo is an internal medicine physician and a Fellow of the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP).
A graduate student of a Master of Arts Degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of York and as an internal medicine physician, Stella currently practices at Kisubi Hospital and International Medical Center in Kampala, Uganda.
Stella was the pioneer Programme Manager of ECSACOP, where she coordinated the programmatic development and implementation of ECSACOP’s objectives in six countries in Africa. Including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
Dr Edmund Ong is an honorary professor of medicine at the Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia and consultant physician at Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Johor.
Edmund graduated from the University of Newcastle medical school and trained in infectious diseases, tropical medicine, and general internal medicine.
Edmund also has an interest in postgraduate medical education as an examiner for MRCP, MMed, and PhD qualifications in Malaysia. His research interests are opportunistic infections, evaluation of antimicrobial, and anti-viral agents, clinical epidemiology, particularly in viral diseases. He has contributed to numerous textbooks on infection and has co-authored more than 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Marios Zenon Panos is a clinical professor in gastroenterology and physiology course lead at the University of Nicosia, and a consultant gastroenterologist at Apollonio Hospital, Nicosia, Cyprus. He is a member of the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
After qualifying at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, Marios trained in general medicine in Cambridge and London and earned his doctorate at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital. He completed his specialist training in Birmingham and was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 1994.
In 1998, Marios moved to Athens to set up a gastroenterology department at the Euroclinic from where he organised regular international medical meetings and promoted links with the RCP. In 2015, he moved to Cyprus to join the University of Nicosia.
Dr Geetha Philips is the lead senior consultant in internal medicine at Aster Hospital.
An expert in the management of diabetes mellitus and other complex medical conditions, Geetha is director of academic affairs and training programme director of core medical training at Aster Medcity, India.
An MRCP PACES Examiner, Geetha is a lifetime member of the Association of Physicians of India and a life academic member of the Research Society for Diabetes in India. With over 30 years of experience as a physician, she is a key opinion maker for physicians in Kochi.
Dr Quadery is a respiratory physician with a special interest in pulmonary hypertension at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin.
He completed his doctoral thesis in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension at the University of Sheffield and has presented his work at international conferences and been published in high impact journals.
Dr Quadery has led the recruitment drive for junior doctors at a teaching hospital in London. In addition, he has developed a curriculum for a clinical orientation programme for new entrant international medical graduates to the NHS. This intervention has saved the organisation one million pounds per year on locum spend, improved patient care and reduced the junior doctor work load. Dr Quadery has been a clinical trainer, trust appraiser, MRCP (UK) PACES examiner and an RCP, IMPACT course instructor.
Dr Bassam Redwan is a senior consultant and deputy chief of thoracic surgery at Klinik am Park Lünen, Germany.
He is a specialist in adult thoracic surgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques and extracorporeal lung support (ECLS). With over a decade of research in perioperative ECLS application and vascular biology, he has made significant scientific contributions.
Bassam's commitment extends to medical education as a lecturer at the University of Witten Herdecke and through the innovative OPUS-skills programme that he co-founded. He has received prestigious awards and is an integral member of several leading medical associations, reflecting his profound impact on thoracic surgery and medical education.
Dr Hilal Al Saffar is a consultant cardiologist and was the director of medical education at the University of Baghdad. He completed his education in Baghdad and graduated from College of Medicine, University of Baghdad in 1981. He became a fellow of the RCP in 2012.
He is experienced in clinical cardiology and the training and education of both under-postgraduate students and postgraduate trainees and oversaw the Iraqi UK training programme, which includes 400 Iraqi specialists training in the UK for two months across many disciplines (2007–2010).
He has great experience in medical education and curriculum reform, leading the modernisation of Baghdad College of Medicine curriculum, from subject-based to system integration, in collaboration with Nottingham and Sheffield Universities. He was appointed as head of the Medical Education Council (MECIQ)/Arab board, member of national council for accreditation medical colleges/Iraq (NCAMC). Currently, he is the head of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society’s Scientific Committee.
Dr Saraf is a director and consultant physician in internal medicine at Jupiter Hospital in India. Amit obtained his medical degree and a master's from the Grant Medical College in Mumbai.
He is a reviewer for the British Medical Journal and many national internal medicine journals. He is also an MRCP London examiner. Dr Saraf’s medical interests include the treatment of diabetes and hypertension, and he is an executive state member for the Research Society for the study of diabetes in India (RSSDI). A postgraduate teacher to medical students, Amit is also the Governing Council member of the National Association of Physicians of India – the largest professional body of physicians in the country.
Professor Ifeoma Ulasi is involved in several research initiatives in kidney disease and clinical trials.
Her scope includes; the International Society of Nephrology sponsored epidemiologic study of kidney disease, H3Africa Kidney Disease Network under the H3Africa Consortium, genetics/genomic studies with centres in Israel, and the USA, and a multi-country, multi-centre hypertension clinical trials in Africa.
She is a member of many national and international professional societies and has published in national and international peer-reviewed journals. She is a professor at the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria and has affiliations with several hospitals. She teaches medical students, student nurses and supervises postgraduate students and resident doctors.
Dr Chandimani Undugodage is a consultant respiratory physician and a senior lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Chandimani is currently the vice president of the Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists (SLCP). She has a special interest in sleep medicine and has contributed immensely to the development of sleep medicine in Sri Lanka. She is the chief editor of the clinical practice guideline on obstructive sleep apnoea published by the SLCP and is a postgraduate trainer in sleep medicine. An examiner for MRCP PACES, Chandimani organises MRCP PACES in Colombo.
Professor Imad Uthman is professor of clinical medicine and head of rheumatology at the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Centre of the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
As ex-president of the Lebanese Society of Rheumatology, Imad's major research interests include the study of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), biologic therapies in rheumatic diseases, and the clinical characteristics of rheumatic diseases in Lebanon.
To date, Imad has written over 170 publications on varying aspects of SLE, APS and rheumatic diseases for leading international rheumatology journals.
Dr Niraj Varma has been a professor of medicine and consultant electrophysiologist at the Cleveland Clinic since 2008.
Having studied at Oxford and Edinburgh University, Niraj went on to be a registrar in Cambridge before gaining his fellowship in Boston. He has pioneered the first clinical applications of electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI) remote monitoring, cardiac resynchronisation algorithms, and ablation technologies.
He is a frequently invited lecturer at local, national, and international scientific symposia. Niraj is immediate past president to ISHNE and serves on the Scientific and Clinical Documents Committee of HRS.
Dr Laurel Young is a consultant rheumatologist and senior lecturer at University of Queensland, Australia. She received her MBBS (Hons) at University of Queensland and internal medicine training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Advance training in rheumatology was in NSW.
She then travelled to Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading UK as a consultant rheumatologist and general physician and spent two years at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital, London. After spending 11 years in the UK working in the NHS, she returned to Australia.
She works privately and at the public hospital at Redcliffe. She has an interest in pregnancy and rheumatological diseases, new therapies and musculoskeletal diseases.
Dr Daniel Yuk is a geriatrician born and trained in Hong Kong. He works in a rehabilitation hospital under the public health sector in Hong Kong.
Daniel is the hospital coordinator for clinical informatics across three hospitals, and his clinical interests include working with patients from the older generation. He has been a key advocate in advance care planning at his hospital and in Hong Kong. He is a pioneer in telemedicine and telecare and has established the first telemedicine service models in infirmary care and geriatric outreach teams.
