The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and our partners at the College of Physicians Malaysia (COPM) are pleased to announce the launch of the Sultan Nazrin Travelling Fellowship – a unique opportunity to advance your professional journey while building global connections.

The fellowship will open for applications in early 2025 and the successful applicant will receive a grant of £2,000 to cover all expenses associated with the fellowship. The successful applicant will be expected to spend 2 weeks in Malaysia, where he or she will gain invaluable insights into healthcare practices and systems. Upon completing the fellowship, the successful candidate will share their learning in a report to both colleges, contributing to the exchange of knowledge across borders.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must have trained in the United Kingdom and be a member or fellow of the RCP. Applicants can be at any stage of their career.

Additional information

  • The COPM will work with the successful candidate to assist with local arrangements, including accommodation, and will coordinate placements at the Ministry of Health’s hospitals and health clinics in more rural settings as required.
  • Interested candidates may wish to study in Malaysian centres that offer specific expertise in a subject that can benefit the NHS on the candidates return. This short visit could be utilised to learn a new medical technique, or to build on an existing relationship and activities that are underway between the applicant and colleagues working in Malaysia. The duration of the placement will be 2 weeks; travel must be undertaken after the award is officially made and retrospective applications cannot be considered.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to write a full report on completion of their placement. They may be invited to present their findings at the annual conference of either college, or to publish their findings in their respective magazines/newsletters.
  • Applications will be shortlisted by individuals from the COPM and the RCP.
  • Applicants will be expected to: complete an application detailing information about their proposed placement, submit a brief CV (two pages maximum), and include a letter of support from their supervisor or clinical director.

Further details of the application process and timelines for the fellowship will be published shortly.
