SAS doctors who hold the MRCP(UK) qualification are eligible for collegiate membership.

SAS doctors without MRCP(UK) are eligible for associate membership. However, there is no difference in access to benefits.

Frequently asked questions

You are eligible to become an associate member of the RCP if you have not yet passed the MRCP(UK) exam but are at one of the following career grades:

  • medical student
  • foundation doctor: FY1 or FY2
  • internal medical trainee: IMT years 1–3
  • staff/trust grade post holder
  • locum consultant
  • honorary contract holder
  • specialty and associate specialist (SAS) doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, clinical fellows, and locum consultants before passing the MRCP(UK) exam
  • advanced clinical practitioner: working or training in acute medicine or within medical specialties (UK only).

International physicians who have not passed the MRCP(UK) exam can qualify for associate membership.

If you are a consultant or an NHS consultant in a substantive post then you are eligible for collegiate membership.

If you are a specialty trainee enrolled in higher medical training with the JRCPTB, you qualify for collegiate membership. We encourage you to spread the cost of your training fees by paying annually alongside your trainee collegiate membership subscription.

If you have passed the MRCP(UK) exam you qualify for collegiate membership.

If you are a qualified international physician who has passed the MRCP(UK) exam you are eligible for collegiate membership.
