Dr Ben Chadwick, a consultant physician in acute medicine at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed as the RCP’s deputy registrar.

The deputy registrar plays an important role at the college, providing operational oversight of the fellowship process and direct support to the registrar in ongoing strategic development, including reporting to RCP Council. This role is integral to ensuring that the RCP continues to attract, support and retain physician members, furthering its mission to improve patient care and medical practice standards.

A fellow of the RCP since 2015, Ben has held the role of RCP regional adviser. During this time he has been instrumental in promoting professional development and engagement among physicians.

In his new role as deputy registrar, Ben will oversee the fellowship process, ensuring that the RCP maintains its high standards while also striving to increase the number and diversity of fellows both in the UK and internationally.

Commenting on his appointment, Dr Ben Chadwick said:

‘I am incredibly pleased to have been appointed as deputy registrar. The RCP plays a vital role in supporting physicians and improving healthcare standards, and I look forward to contributing to its ongoing development and engagement with the medical community.

‘I am particularly passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion within the fellowship, ensuring that talented physicians from all backgrounds feel welcomed and valued within the RCP.’

The appointment comes as the RCP undertakes a programme of modernisation, focusing on reforming its governance and constitution to enhance transparency, inclusivity and effectiveness.

This aims to ensure that the college remains fit for purpose in an evolving healthcare landscape and continues to support physicians at every stage of their careers.

Dr Omar Mustafa, the RCP’s registrar, said:

‘Dr Chadwick becomes deputy registrar at a pivotal time for the college. We are currently undergoing a major constitutional and governance review, which will ensure that the RCP is a progressive and representative organisation for physicians. His experience in clinical and education leadership roles will be invaluable as we move forward with these changes. I look forward to working closely with Ben to strengthen our links with the RCP members and fellows and enhance our strategic initiatives.’
