'Eat Fat, Cut the Carbs' report. RCP comment

Commenting on a new report ‘Eat Fat, Cut The Carbs and Avoid Snacking To Reverse Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes’ from the National Obesity Forum and Public Health Collaborative, Professor John Wass, the Royal College of Physicians’ special adviser on obesity, said:

Not everybody would agree with these findings. There is good evidence that saturated fat increases cholesterol and problems with arterial disease and that reducing cholesterol by statins decreases coronary and cerebrovascular events. What is needed is a balanced diet, regular physical activity and a normal healthy weight. To quote selective studies risks misleading the public.

Professor Wass will be available for comment and interviews. For more information please contact Linda Cuthbertson 0203 075 1254
