On Monday 18 March, the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) released the data from a member survey, which was carried out ahead of an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Wednesday 13 March.
The EGM was organised to debate the role and regulation of physician associates (PAs) and the RCP commissioned a pre-EGM survey to learn more about our members’ experience of working with PAs.
I understand the concerns expressed about how the membership survey data were represented at the EGM. It was our intention to use this opportunity to give an indication of the views of our members from this survey. I apologise unreservedly for any confusion. We are working to understand why this happened so that I can ensure that we improve our processes.
Many of our trainees are dissatisfied with their experience of medical training and the supervision they receive, a view which is shared by many consultants. We will continue to address these concerns and commit to strengthening our efforts to improve training.
The results of the EGM ballot will be shared on Monday 25 March. We will honour the outcome of the vote and our next steps will be decided by RCP Council and the RCP Board of Trustees.
