RCP Council has voted to reject recommendation 16 in the report of the short life working group (SLWG) that was established in April to develop recommendations to RCP Council on delivering the result of the post-EGM ballot of fellows.

Recommendation 16 called on the RCP to close the PA Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) to new entrants as soon as possible. Because no consensus was reached on this recommendation at either Council or the SLWG, Council members were invited to vote between 24 May – 4 June 2024 on whether to accept recommendation 16.

The vote closed at midday today (4 June) and turnout was 72.9% of voting Council members. The recommendation was rejected (18 votes–17 votes).

The PAMVR will therefore remain open to new entrants until the General Medical Council becomes the regulator for medical associate professionals, including PAs, on 13 December. The RCP will close the PAMVR as soon as the GMC register for PAs is open in mid-December.

The other 15 recommendations of the SLWG were accepted, either in full or in principle. Work will now continue to deliver on the remaining recommendations.
