The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has been informed that the ACCEA (Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards) will be opening the 2020 application round for new awards and the renewal of existing ones on Thursday 13 March in England and Wales.
As in previous years the RCP will be supporting applicants for new awards as a national nominating body. However, this is a very competitive process and there is a limit to the number of consultants we are allowed to recommend.
National awards are subject to renewal every 5 years and this is not automatic. The RCP can provide citations for renewal applicants, but renewal applicants must treat applications to the ACCEA as seriously as a new application. Consultants will need to put in a renewal application if they:
- received their current award in the 2016 round
- last renewed their award in 2015 (ie they were awarded in 2011, 2006 or 2001).
Deadline for applications for RCP support
To allow time to process, score and shortlist applications, the RCP support scheme opens on Thursday 23 January.
The RCP support scheme closes:
- 11.59pm on Sunday 22 March for platinum applicants
- 11.59pm on Sunday 29 March for gold, silver and bronze applicants
- 11.59pm on Sunday 5 April for all renewals.
ACCEA will close the 2020 round on Thursday 7 May at 5pm
ACCEA have decided to delay the launch of the 2020 national Clinical Excellence Award scheme competition until Friday 13 March 2020.
RCP will be altering the deadlines of the support scheme in due course. Updates will be posted here.
