The Spine building awarded WELL Platinum certification

Spine Atrium

WELL is premised on a holistic view of health: human health as not only a state of being free of disease - which is indeed a fundamental component of health - but also of the enjoyment of productive lives from which we derive happiness and satisfaction. Healthy spaces protect us from that which can make us sick, promote practices that can keep us well, and facilitate opportunities for us to connect with one another and live our lives to the fullest.

The WELL Building Standard measures 10 concepts including air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind and community.

The floors belonging to the RCP have now been awarded the highest rating possible due to its range of architectural features that promote wellbeing. These include biophilic strategies such as the installation of natural materials, ie timber, and abundant indoor plants, daylight optimisation, its adjoining wellness cafe, The Base, which centres around healthy and vegan/plant-based food, and more.

Rob Hopkins, head of sustainability at AHR said: ‘The RCP were real pioneers in adopting the WELL Standard as the perfect way of expressing the core values of their organisation. Our shared vision was to shape more than just a building, but an experience – a space designed with a philosophy that people will feel healthier when they walk out of the building than when they arrived. This accomplishment underscores not only our design principles, but our commitment to enhancing Liverpool’s workplace offering with a hub of wellbeing and innovation.’

The Spine building was opened by Liverpool City Council in 2021 and is now one of the healthiest buildings in the north west and the UK. We thank all those involved in the project for their dedication to help us realise this achievement.
