Dr Helen Bonwick

Helen Bonwick is an associate specialist working in specialist palliative medicine in Liverpool. She works between Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. She has been the Merseyside representative on the SAS regional representatives committee since May 2020. She is also a member of the SAS specialists committee.

Helen is passionate about SAS doctors being recognised for their contribution and delivery of healthcare, education and research. She has been an educational supervisor for the last 6 years. She is also the SAS specialty lead in palliative medicine for Health Education North West (Merseyside and Cheshire). This means she is able to work between the RCP and Health Education England North West. She is currently reviewing development of SAS doctors in palliative care across the north west area including regular educational supervision, access to education and rotational posts. This also includes encouraging employers to work to the SAS charter. Her main interests relate to both undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare education.

Dr Sarah Mungall

Severn

Dr Sarah Mungall is an associate specialist in respiratory medicine at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. She has an interest in medical education and holds a postgraduate certificate in medical education from Bristol University.

She is co-SAS tutor and an appraiser for the trust. She is year 3 undergraduate lead at South Bristol Academy. She leads the tuberculosis (TB) service in Bristol, and is the clinical representative for the South West TB Control board.

Sarah hopes to improve links both between SAS doctors in the Severn region, and between SAS doctors and the RCP. She would like to encourage SAS doctors to promote their achievements and support them to apply for additional roles to allow career development and progression. She would like to promote nominations for fellowship within the SAS community to ensure recognition of colleagues’ achievements.

Dr Rehan Azim Qureshi

Yorkshire

Rehan works as a specialty doctor in general medicine at Scarborough General Hospital, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has a special interest in clinical research, medical education, healthcare quality and patient safety, as well as medical leadership. Rehan has a number of certifications in his areas of interest, and also been appointed at Hull York Medical School as an honorary senior lecturer.

He graduated from Hamdard University, Pakistan, has been a member of the RCP since 2019, and is also a member of the British Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. He has a wide multicentre clinical experience, particularly in the fields of general medicine, acute and renal medicine.

In pursuit of excellence in teaching skills, he’s hoping to start postgraduate certificate in health professions education in autumn 2021. He also received a SAS Teaching Fellowship 2021–22 from Health Education England in Yorkshire and Humber.

Dr Priscilla Smith

London South

Dr Priscilla Smith originally qualified in Melbourne, Australia where she undertook specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology. She moved to the UK in 2010, had an extended career break to start a family and then transitioned into renal medicine after gaining GMC registration and doing MRCP exams.

Dr Smith now works as a specialty doctor in renal medicine at King’s College Hospital, London delivering multicentre inpatient and outpatient care. She has expertise in multimorbidity and serves as the secondary care renal specialist on a new multimorbidity medical decision making in the primary care network of Bromley. She co-leads the King’s Renal Pregnancy Clinic caring for women with pre-existing chronic kidney disease (CKD) or new renal disease diagnosed in pregnancy. She is in the final stages of a PhD investigating reproductive health issues in CKD through King’s College London and is principal investigator for several commercial and non-commercial randomised controlled trials. She was awarded an MSc (clinical trials) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and remains a tutor on the protocol development and ethics modules of the course.
