Healthcare quality improvement

Our objective is to create a sustainable framework and set of resources which empower and enable stakeholders to use NRAP data to facilitate improvements in the quality of asthma and COPD care.

Our strategy

Our Healthcare Improvement strategy (2024-26) outlines a framework for how NRAP will work to support healthcare improvement within respiratory settings.

Within our strategy we also identify five healthcare improvement goals which were developed with support of a task and finish group. Our goals are in the following areas:

  • Treating tobacco dependency
  • Early and accurate diagnosis
  • Supporting self-management
  • Inhaler technique checks
  • Access to pulmonary rehabilitation.

We will be supporting services in England and Wales to take steps to achieve these goals by May 2026.

Healthcare Improvement fellow recruitment

NRAP is recruiting a clinical fellow for healthcare improvement to support the clinical lead in delivering our healthcare improvement strategy across all programme workstreams.

This is an honorary post running to May 2027 and it is open to clinical staff including nurses and allied health professionals, resident doctors, and early years consultants/specialist doctors.

This is an opportunity to contribute clinical insight, improvement expertise, and stakeholder engagement to ensure NRAP data is translated into meaningful action. You can hear more about the role from our current clinical fellow here.

For further details about the role and how to apply, please see our advert Healthcare Improvement Clinical Fellow (National Respiratory Audit Programme).

Closing date for applications is: 17:00, 19 December 2025

Our approach

Healthcare improvement education programme

NRAP’s healthcare improvement programme is live!

The 12-month programme for respiratory teams in England and Wales provides online learning alongside virtual workshops and support from a dedicated coach. Our coaches and teams have completed online improvement modules and the coaches workshop will begin in September, with teams workshops following in October and November.

We are looking forward to working with respiratory teams and coaches on their improvement goals in adult or children and young people’s asthma, COPD and pulmonary rehabilitation. Together we aim to achieve sustainable improvement in the care of people with respiratory conditions in England and Wales.
