RCP regional advisers (RAs) are RCP fellows who have been selected to serve their region in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The RCP regards RAs to be essential in advising on a range of training, teaching and service activities that are pertinent to the work of physicians. They are your local voice and connection to the RCP and have the opportunity to share good practice or raise issues on the ground in your region.

RAs are responsible for:

•    approving consultant job descriptions
•    reviewing and assessing applications for RCP fellowship
•    acting as a point of contact for college tutors
•    arranging an ‘Update in medicine’ conference in their region/nation
•    attending a local trust visit with the RCP president and registrar.

Regional Advisers (RAs) are a crucial role for the RCP. They provide the vital link between physicians in the UK and the RCP Council and senior officers. During the COVID-19 pandemic this vital leadership role was invaluable in providing local intelligence to help inform and support the work of the RCP in our role to nurture and sustain physicians. As well as contributing to the wider response to the crisis. To be eligible, applicants must be current subscribing RCP fellows (rather than fellows of another royal college).

This role requires engagement with local physicians and carrying out specific duties that maintain the quality of local services and encourage a vibrant network of physicians. 

We currently have a vacancies for regional advisers in the following regions.

Closing date for applications - 6 April 2025:

  • Northern
  • Peninsula
  • West Midlands
  • Kent, Surrey and Sussex
  • Eastern
  • Wessex

Applications open 17 March 2025 and close at midnight 8 June 2025:

  • North Western

Applications open 22 September 2025 and close at midnight 26 October 2025:

  • London (North West)
Application for the role of RCP regional adviser

If there is a vacancy in your region and you would like to stand for the role, you must be a practising clinician within the region and a fellow of the RCP. 

Applications require the following:

  • Completed application form to apply for RCP regional adviser vacancy
  • Copy of your latest CV maximum two pages.

The application form asks for your details including full name, job title and hospital as well as short statements relating to your suitability for the role. You will also require the names of two RCP fellows from within the region who support your nomination.

You should send your application form to your RCP regional manager.

What happens next?

At the closing date, all applications will go to the next RCP nomination committee meeting (the dates can be provided by your RCP regional manager) where the committee and the RCP registrar will review all applications and will select the candidate that they consider will best complement the strengths of the current regional team.
